I’m happy to share that Pixel Budget has been featured on SaaS Browser ! In the case study, I talk about why I created Pixel Budget, the ideas behind the app, and why I decided to build an expense tracking and budgeting app that doesn’t require users to connect their bank accounts. I also share some of the lessons I learned while developing Pixel Budget, how feedback from Beta users shaped the product, and what I would do differently if I were starting again today. After five months of Beta testing, I’m excited to announce that Pixel Budget will officially launch on September 9! The Private Beta started on April 1, followed by the Open Beta on May 23. Over these five months, feedback from Beta users has helped me find and fix bugs, improve existing features, and make Pixel Budget easier and more reliable to use. The Beta also brought several major new features and improvements, including: Scheduled Transactions – Future transactions are kept separately and automatically become regular transactions when their date arrives. Recurring Transactions – Regular expenses and income can be scheduled to repeat automatically. Add Transaction via Siri  – Transactions can be added quickly by voice on iPhone using Siri and Apple Shortcuts, without opening the app. Improved transaction approval on mobile – Imported transactions and transactions added via Siri can be reviewed and approved directly from the mobile app. Smarter transaction entry – Improvem...

We're excited to introduce support for Siri Shortcuts in Pixel Budget, making it possible to record expenses and income using just your voice—without opening the app. Many people want to record expenses as soon as they happen. Although Pixel Budget already offers a fast and intuitive manual transaction entry process, the new Siri Shortcuts integration makes it even faster—you can record transactions without opening the app. Recording a transaction takes only a few seconds. Simply say: You: Hey Siri, record expense for Chase Bank. Siri: Amount slash vendor? You: 58.40 slash Walmart. That's it! Pixel Budget adds the transaction to the Pending Transactions list for review and automatically suggests the vendor and category based on your previously approved transactions. Today's update includes several bug fixes and improvements. The most significant enhancement is the improved Automatic Vendor and Category Detection feature. When you import transactions from a bank export, Pixel Budget automatically detects the vendor and category by analysing the transaction's description or memo field. As you continue importing transactions over time, Pixel Budget learns from your previous imports, making its suggestions increasingly accurate. The underlying detection algorithm has been optimized, and testing has shown a significant improvement in accuracy. This enhancement was an important step toward the upcoming Add Transaction via Siri feature, which will use the same automatic detection engine to identify vendors and categories from your voice input.

Today's update includes several bug fixes and stability improvements. One of the fixes addresses the missing splash screen in the mobile app on iOS. On some iPhone models, the splash screen did not appear when launching the app, and only a white screen was shown. It turned out that the required splash screen images had not been generated for all recent iPhone models. With this update, splash screens are now available for all supported iPhones from the iPhone XR through the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The splash screen on iPhone Since the mobile app is a Progressive Web App (PWA), most updates are applied automatically in the background on the server. I'm happy to announce that Approve Transactions is now available in the Pixel Budget mobile app! Until now, importing transactions from your bank's CSV, OFX, or QFX exports—and then reviewing and approving those imported transactions—was available only in the web app. With this update, the review and approval process can now be completed directly from the mobile app as well. The import itself remains available only in the web app , where you upload your bank export file and complete the import wizard. The Import page in the web app. Once the transactions have been imported, you can review and approve them from either the web app or the mobile app. How to Access It In the mobile app: Tap the menu icon. Select Approve Transactions . From a functionality perspective, this page is the same as the Import page in the web app, except that it doesn't include the file import functionality.
